6 Reasons for Drinking More Water
The most important nutrient – oxygen. The second most important which generates life on our planet – water.
Our brains are made up of 85% water and our bodies are made up of about 60% – 75% water. Yet, most people I know don’t drink enough of it.
Why drink more?
- Do you often suffer with backaches, headaches or digestive problems? While it could be associated to a number of things, it could be something as “simple” as dehydration. In fact, when we deprive our cells of water, they start to react different. Water could be your cure. While people often tell me, “Well, I drink a lot of water in my coffee and tea,” um…no… unfortunately it doesn’t count. Coffee, tea, juice, soda, and energy drinks are not water. They contain water, but also contain dehydrating agents and unnecessary sugars and calories.
- Water fires up your metabolism
- Hydrates you
- Flushes out toxins
- Provides fuel for your brain
- May help you eat less
How much?
Read 10 different sources and you may find 10 different non-committal answers. My best rule of thumb – ½ your body weight in ounces. For example, if you weigh 150 lbs, drink 75 oz of water. Your water needs are based on: age, activity, climate and altitude, diet, and health concerns. Remember bio-individuality. The right amount for you is based on you. When you first start drinking more water you may have to urinate a lot more. Why? It is actually because as you start to hydrate your cells you start dumping a lot of the stored toxins. Once you hydrated enough, your urine should be clear in color. Note, too much water can cause mineral deficiency so be sure to listen to your body and adjust accordingly.
What kind?
Natural Spring water would be the best but can be difficult to come by. Alkaline water is my favorite. The doctor who treated my cancer put me on an Enagic water system which makes alkaline water – and I have been using it ever since. Choose the best source you can. While it may be your only option for now, consider that bottled water is not monitored and is stored in toxic, plastic bottles which can leak into the water. This is an area I would consider in investing in a good source. After all, it is the majority of what we are comprised of.
